Проспект, который начинается в центральной части г. Лос-Анджелеса и идет в направлении Санта-Моники [Santa Monica], пересекая фешенебельные кварталы Беверли-хиллс [Beverly Hills], Сенчури-сити [Century City] и Вествуд-виллидж [Westwood Village], и заканчивается недалеко от океанской набережной в Вестсайде [Westside]. "Уилширский коридор" [Wilshire Corridor], включающий несколько проспектов, параллельных бульвару, известен как густонаселенный район с интенсивным движением транспорта. Участок между авеню Ла-Бриа [La Brea Avenue] и Фэрфакс [Fairfax Avenue] прозван Милей чудес [Miracle Mile] - это район дорогих многоквартирных домов, магазинов, ресторанов, банков и контор компаний; застроен в 1920-30-е. Среди отелей "Беверли Уилшир" [Beverly Wilshire Hotel] и "Хилтон" [Beverly Hilton (Hilton)]. Здесь находятся также Художественный музей округа Лос-Анджелес [Los Angeles County Museum of Art] и Художественный музей А. Хаммера [Armand Hammer Museum of Art; Hammer, Armand]. В районе авеню Фэрфакс, пересекающей бульвар, традиционно проживают члены еврейской общины города; ныне значительную часть населения района составляют выходцы из бывшего СССР. Бульвар появился в первое десятилетие XX в. после того, как случайно открытое месторождение нефти на одном из его будущих участков стало приносить прибыли его владельцам
